Purchasing Agent

Employment Type: Full-Time Position

Pay: $20.00 to $35.00 Depending on experience

Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and technically minded Purchasing Agent to manage all procurement functions for our growing fire truck manufacturing company. This position is responsible for sourcing, ordering, and coordinating the delivery of parts and materials necessary for the on-time and high-quality completion of custom fire apparatus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase parts and raw materials based on production schedules and engineering specs.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers; negotiate prices, delivery terms, and lead times.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and BOMs to verify part specifications and compatibility.
  • Monitor inventory levels and reorder points; coordinate just-in-time deliveries to reduce holding costs.
  • Track all purchase orders, receipts, and backorders in Fishbowl inventory management systems.
  • Source alternate suppliers or substitute products as needed due to delays or discontinuations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and accounting to ensure accurate part flow and cost control.
  • Stay updated on NFPA standards, DOT regulations, and other compliance issues affecting parts sourcing.
  • Resolve vendor discrepancies, defective deliveries, or order errors swiftly and effectively.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain in a manufacturing environment (vehicle or equipment manufacturing preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of vehicle systems, mechanical parts, and/or custom builds.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Fishbowl inventory systems
  • Ability to manage multiple vendors and parts simultaneously under tight timelines.
  • Comfortable reading blueprints, technical drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Knowledge of fire apparatus or emergency vehicle manufacturing is a strong plus.
